Eman Mohammed is a Palestinian-American photojournalist born in 1983 in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. She was raised and educated in Gaza, where she began her photojournalism career at the age of 19. As one of the first female photojournalists in Gaza, she navigated significant societal and professional challenges to document life in the region, focusing on the experiences of women and children during times of conflict.
In 2014, Mohammed moved to Washington, D.C., seeking medical care for her daughter who was injured during an Israeli military operation in Gaza. The move became permanent because of border closures that kept her from being able to come back. Since then, she has expanded her work into multimedia storytelling, covering global issues related to displacement, trauma, and resilience.
Her work has been featured in major international outlets, including The Guardian, Le Monde, and The Washington Post, and she has exhibited her photography worldwide. As a Senior Transatlantic Educators Dialogue (TED) Fellow, Mohammed often talks about the power of photography to challenge stereotypes and amplify underrepresented voices. She is also a mentor and advocate for aspiring journalists, particularly women and individuals from marginalized communities.
