Khadija Jayi was born in 1989 in Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, Morocco. Her art is influenced by her experiences growing up in a conservative environment, using her work to explore themes of identity, memory, and resilience. Jayi pursued her passion for art despite societal expectations, eventually graduating from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Tetouan in 2018.
Jayi’s artistic practice is marked by her use of unconventional materials like burned paper, plastic, and acrylic, creating layered compositions that highlight both texture and emotion. In her 2023 series The Relics of the Earth, she uses fire as both a tool and a metaphor to reflect on personal and collective experiences.
Her work has been exhibited in solo shows, including Memory of Flames at Galleria Anna Marra in Rome, and in group exhibitions at Art Dubai and the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat.
Now based in Morocco, Jayi continues to use her art as a form of social commentary, addressing gender norms and societal expectations through her practice.
