Rashid Diab, is a prominent Sudanese modern painter, visual artist, and art historian. Diab began his academic journey in Sudan, graduating with honors from the College of Fine and Applied Art in Khartoum in 1978. He furthered his education in Spain at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he earned degrees in painting and graphic arts, culminating in a PhD in 1991 with a thesis on the ‘Philosophy of Sudanese Art.’ Diab later became the first lecturer from an African country at the university's Faculty of Fine Arts.
After spending 20 years in Spain, Diab returned to Sudan in 1999, where he founded the Dara Art Gallery and the Rashid Diab Cultural Centre in Khartoum. These institutions became key platforms for art exhibitions, workshops, and cultural exchange in Sudan.
Throughout his career, Diab has participated in major international art exhibitions, and his work has been showcased globally, contributing to the understanding and appreciation of modern Sudanese art. His contributions to the art world are not only limited to his creative works but also extend to his scholarly pursuits and his role in nurturing the next generation of artists.
