Salah Missi, born in 1992 in Saida, South Lebanon, is a Lebanese visual artist. He holds a Master's degree in Architecture from Beirut Arab University and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Lebanese University. His architectural background provided him with a strong foundation in design principles, which he integrates into his artistic practice.
Missi’s work delves into the human experience, particularly in Lebanon. He explores societal norms and the effects of political systems on everyday life, with an emphasis on self-reflection and judgement in a quest for autonomy. His artistic mediums span across painting, drawing, and printmaking, often employing red chalk, pastel, and gouache on paper, as well as acrylic on canvas. His artworks depict expressive, figurative forms primarily focused on hands and human bodies in various states of tension and movement. The use of black and white or monochromatic tones gives his pieces a raw, emotional intensity.
He held his first solo show Ephemeral Lands in 2023 at the no/mad utopia art gallery in Beirut. His art has also been exhibited internationally in countries such as Germany, Ireland, and Saudi Arabia, reflecting his diverse engagement with global and regional themes.
