Abdullah Murad was born in Homs, Syria, in 1944. He studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Damascus, and graduated in 1970. In 1984, Murad won first prize at the Greeting to...

Abdullah Murad was born in Homs, Syria, in 1944. He studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Damascus, and graduated in 1970. In 1984, Murad won first prize at the Greeting to Miro and Picasso Exhibition at the Spanish Cultural Center in Damascus. He is a member of the Syrian Syndicate of Fine Arts and the Arab Artists Union. A pioneer of abstract expressionism in the Arab world, Murad creates drawings and paintings inspired by arabesque themes and fauvist colors. His artworks are characterized by asymmetric compositions and experimentation in color and movement. Murad still lives and works in Damascus.
