The Ramzi and Saeda Dalloul Art Foundation (DAF), in Beirut, is delighted to announce that ten artworks from its collection will be featured in the forthcoming 60th International Art Exhibition, in Venice, curated by Adriano Pedrosa and titled Stranieri Ovunque or Foreigners Everywhere.
Adriano Pedrosa eloquently explains the significance of the exhibition's title, stating, "Wherever you go and wherever you are, you will always encounter foreigners. No matter where you find yourself, you are always, truly, and deep down inside, a foreigner." The 60th International Art Exhibition will take place in the Central Pavilion (Giardini) and the Arsenale, in venice. With 332participants, it will feature two sections: the Nucleo Contemporaneo and the Nucleo Storico.
Created by different Arab artists, the ten artworks selected from the DAF collection, along with other artworks from Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Arab world, will be showcased in the Nucleo Storico section which features 20th-century art spanning from 1905-1999. Nucleo Storico addresses global modernisms and modernisms in the Global South. As explained by the curator Adriano Pedrosa, the exhibition is conceived as "a speculative curatorial exercise that seeks to question the boundaries and definitions of modernism [...]"
"We are all too familiar with the histories of modernism in Euroamerica, yet the modernisms in the Global South remain largely unknown [...]" Pedrosa expressed.
The curatorial direction aligns with DAF’s commitment to promoting Arab Art and highlighting modernism from the Arab world. We are proud to contribute to this global platform, the 60th International Art Exhibition, by lending artworks created by the following distinguished Arab artists:
Aly Ben Salem, Tunisia (1920 - 2001)
Bibi Zogbé, Lebanon (1890 - 1975)
Ezekiel Baroukh, Egypt (1909 - 1984)
Inji Efflatoun, Egypt (1924 - 1989)
Mohammed Kacimi, Morocco (1942 - 2003)
