Part 2. In July 14th, 1958, the Iraqi Army Brigadier Abd al-Karim Qasim (1914-1963) led a revolution, which overthrew the Hashemite monarchy ruled by King Faisal I (1883-1933). Since then, the Iraqi Republic fostered its diplomatic and military links with the USSR. In the second part of the conversation, Olga Nefedova presents another subject of her research Untold Stories of the First Iraqi Art Exhibition in the USSR. This essay focuses on the first Iraqi Art exhibition held in 1959 to celebrate the first anniversary of the Iraqi Republic and highlights some works from Ismail Al-Cheikhli (1924-2002), and Shaker Hassan al-Said (1925-2004).
